Three Authentic Camino Stamps

What makes this medal truly special is the combination of three authentic Camino stamps, each representing a significant part of the pilgrimage.

1. The Dutch Society of Saint James

The first stamp is from the Dutch Society of Saint James (Nederlands Genootschap van Sint Jacob), an organization dedicated to keeping the tradition, culture and community of pilgrimage to Santiago alive in the Netherlands.

For many Dutch pilgrims, the society is an important connection to the Camino community. Its stamp represents the shared bond between pilgrims before, during and after their journey to Santiago.

2. Roncesvalles Pilgrims Hostel

The second stamp comes from the Pilgrims Hostel in Roncesvalles, one of the most iconic places on the Camino Francés.

Located in the Pyrenees, Roncesvalles has welcomed pilgrims for centuries and remains an important meeting point for people from all over the world. For many pilgrims, it marks the true beginning of their Camino Francés.

Its stamp therefore represents the beginning of the pilgrimage, the moment when the journey truly starts.

3. S.A.M.I. Santiago de Compostela

The third stamp is the S.A.M.I. stamp, connected to the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago de Compostela.

After hundreds of kilometres on foot, arriving in Santiago marks the completion of the pilgrimage. The stamp represents that final destination and the powerful moment when the journey becomes a lasting memory.

Which provinces does the Camino Francés run through?

During the journey, you traverse several Spanish provinces:

  • Navarra
  • La Rioja
  • Burgos
  • Palencia
  • León
  • Lugo
  • A Coruña

These provinces are spread across four autonomous regions: Navarra, La Rioja, Castile and León, and Galicia. As a result, you experience a wide variety of landscapes, dialects, architecture, and culinary traditions along the way.

A route full of variety

What makes the Camino Francés so special is its enormous variety. You walk through mountainous areas, vast grain fields, historic cities, medieval villages, and green Galician hills. Along the way, you meet people of all ages and nationalities, each with their own reason for undertaking the journey.

More than a walking route

Many people start the Camino Francés for the sporting challenge or out of curiosity about the history. But often, they discover something else along the way: the simplicity of daily walking, the encounters with fellow pilgrims, and the rhythm of the route ensure that for many, the Camino becomes much more than just a hike.
Perhaps that is the greatest secret of the Camino Francés: you set out to reach a destination, but ultimately, the journey itself turns out to be the most beautiful part of the adventure.
