De aankomst van de indrukwekkende reis, die Leroy  aflegde op zijn fiets van Zierikzee naar Santiago! Super trots op hem, wat een prestatie! Vanuit die prestatie werd ook het idee gecreëerd om deze mooie medailles te gaan ontwerpen. Heel bijzonder allemaal en natuurlijk allemaal voor een heel belangrijk goed doel! ❤️

Our Story

In 2023, Leroy, co-founder of Outdoor Medals, cycled from Zierikzee to Santiago de Compostela in five weeks to raise money for his in-laws, who were both battling cancer. When he arrived, his journey was marked with a Camino medal. For him, it wasn’t just a medal, but a symbol of strength, growth, and unforgettable memories.

In May 2024, Fabienne, Leroy’s wife and co-founder, lost her parents to two rare forms of cancer. This immense loss inspired them to start Outdoor Medals, turning that symbol into a way to honor their memory and support others.

With each medal, €5 is donated to the AVL Foundation to support research into the rare cancers that took Fabienne’s parents. Through this gesture, their story continues, carried forward by others on their own meaningful journeys.

After a year marked by grief, Leroy and his wife Fabienne decided to walk the Camino Portugués in May 2025. In just 13 days, they journeyed from Porto to Santiago de Compostela. It was an unforgettable experience. Thanks to the support of many kind people around them, they also managed to raise over €1,600 for the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation, supporting cancer research.

We have a strong relationship with the Pilgrim Office in Santiago de Compostela and the Dutch Saint James Society. They support our initiative, which is why the Camino Medal features the official stamps and is available for purchase at the Pilgrim Office in Santiago de Compostela.
